Immediate danger to life: call 999 or 112.

Treat an extended outage as a household welfare and logistics problem. The power supply may affect heating, cooking, lifts, water pumps, sewage systems, payments, fuel stations and communications. The severity differs by place and event. Do not assume every loss occurs immediately, or that a national outage has been declared merely because your street is without power.
Make a daily needs check
Write down quantities and likely depletion times rather than guessing. Prioritise safe drinking water, care, shelter, food and hygiene over entertainment loads. Check supplier and local authority arrangements before travelling to a reported distribution point or rest centre. Confirm it is operating, accessible and relevant to your area.
Across the first few days: Rotate safe shelf-stable food, monitor warmth and health, use low-power lighting and radios, and check agreed support contacts. Reassess each day. A three-day kit is a starting buffer; it is not a reason to stay in unsafe conditions for three days.
If disruption continues for weeks: Seek dependable resupply, care continuity and temporary accommodation where necessary. Build a routine for handwashing, food, medicine, communications and waste. Share practical help through trusted community arrangements when safe. Avoid dangerous fuel storage, unsafe heating or endless battery purchases as substitutes for a supported move.
Move or request help early if: Essential medical equipment cannot be sustained, safe water is almost gone, cold or heat poses a health risk, sanitation fails beyond your ability to manage it safely, or you cannot care for a dependant. Tell responders about access, mobility and equipment needs.
A move should follow current sheltering and travel instructions. Do not leave radiation shelter merely because electricity is out. The UK CMOs' national outage scripts are exceptional contingency guidance and are not an instruction to treat every local power cut as a complete national sewage failure.
