UK ReadyKnow what to do

Emergency / danger to life

Immediate threat to life, crime in progress or another emergency needing an urgent response.

In immediate danger? Call 999 or 112

Call 999 (or 112) for an immediate threat to life, a crime in progress, serious injury, fire, a dangerous collision, or any other emergency requiring an urgent response. Do not use a specialist non-emergency reporting line instead of 999 when urgent help is required.

Choose 999 or 112 whenever there is danger to life or a crime is happening now. The other sections here are for reporting hazards, faults and concerns that are not an immediate emergency.

Not an emergency, but need the police?

Call 101 for non-emergency police matters, or use your local force's online reporting. Call 999 if the situation escalates.
