Water supply problems
If your water is off, discoloured or you've been told not to drink it, your supplier's own notices are the official source. In Scotland that is Scottish Water and in Northern Ireland NI Water.
Water supply notices
There is no national water-incident feed. Your drinking-water supplier publishes supply interruptions, low pressure, planned works, boil-water, do-not-drink and do-not-use notices, bottled-water stations and restoration updates. Follow its instructions exactly.
Not sure who supplies you? Your bill shows it, or use the official supplier finder (Water UK). Some areas have a different company for water and for sewerage.
No notice shown here does not mean your water is safe or unaffected — check your supplier.
Types of notice your supplier may issue
- Boil-water notice — water must be boiled before drinking. Follow the exact instructions in the notice.
- Do-not-drink notice — do not drink the tap water; the notice says what it can still be used for.
- Do-not-use notice — do not use the tap water for anything except flushing toilets, unless the notice says otherwise.
- Supply interruption or low pressure, planned works, bottled-water collection points and restoration updates.
These are general descriptions only — the wording in your supplier's notice always applies. See also water notices guide.
